When Do You Need a Compound Die?

When a blanking die isn’t enough and a progressive die is too much, a compound die just might fit the bill.

Contemporary manufacturers find that the compound die is a very effective tool when shorter part runs don’t justify the use of the more expensive progressive die. The compound die allows you to cut both the internal and external aspects of a part in one press stroke, producing the finished part in a single station. Producing completed parts at one station with one press stroke eliminates multiple part movements and results in optimum mechanical accuracy.

Compound dies are appropriate for use in numerous metal stamping operations. Additionally, compound dies maintain exceptional part flatness. Primarily used for cutting operations, the compound die is frequently used to produce pierced blanks to close dimensional and flatness tolerances.

When metal stamping requires the stamping of more than one part feature in independent operations, consider using the compound die. Contact us for a quote. Toolmasters is expert in the design and production of all types of metal dies. Our in-house die design will analyze your requirements to custom design the exact die that fits your needs.
